Welcome, Autumn!

Autumn is such a glorious time of year!
A season when the chilly air calls us
to snuggle into our sweaters while sipping our
favorite warm drinks from mugs.
Enjoy my selection of things that speak of autumn.
Crisp, cozy, autumn.

Creations in Nature: Spectacular Land Art Designed from Stones, Leaves & Shells

Oh, how these meticulously arranged collections of stones, shells and leaves
show off the beauty of nature and the creativity of artist Dietmar Voorwold!

There's nothing random or happenstance here;
everything is perfectly chosen to be perfectly symmetrical, perfectly balanced,
perfectly colored, shaped or sized - all to create stunning works of art!

I find a sense of calm in the orderly patterns combined with natural elements.
Very zen. Mesmerizing, aren't they?
Enjoy the beauty of these Creations in Nature!

This last one with the stacked stone ovals is my favorite!
Which one is yours?

Intricate Paper Carving by Maude White

Maude White, of Buffalo, New York, is an uber talented papercutting artist.
Her shop is called Brave Bird Paperworks.
It's difficult to even begin to imagine the patience required.
Precise. Deliberate. Steady. Exact.
Maude's work is so delicate, like the most fragile lace.
Truly ethereal!
This is beyond cutting. She calls it "carving."
And the results? Spectacular!

Punch Needle Embroidery by Harp & Thistle

I'm super excited to show off the talent of Harp & Thistle!
This type of stitchery is called punch needle embroidery,
taken from an ancient technique of making hooked rugs.

Erin & Cory are the husband and wife team of "Harp & Thistle."
The clever name pairs symbols of their ancestries: hers, Ireland; his, Scotland.
She designs and creates each item. He's behind the scenes as photographer & shipper.

I am absolutely smitten with this fresh & fabulous embroidery hoop art!

Crocheted Leaves by Susanna Bauer

As autumn leaves are falling here in beautiful Pennsylvania,
I want to pay homage to the season through the fascinating work of Susanna Bauer.

A small object found in nature, be it a smooth stone, an interesting
piece of driftwood, or in this case, a leaf, is her starting point.

She likes to bring attention to those tiny details that most folks don't even notice.

Using "crochet as a means of sculpture," she embraces the fragility
of leaves by embellishing them to a place of heightened beauty.

Imagine the patient focus of each skilled stitch!

She achieves fabulous results as she combines
fine delicate threads with waxy, veined leaves!

German-born Susanna Bauer now resides in England.
You can see more of her work on her website
She's also on Facebook.

Fall Foliage

Yes indeed, this is my favorite time of year!  The rich autumn colors are just too good to be true!  And there's nothing quite like seeing the trees when the sun is out to light the colors on fire! I have sweet childhood memories of my parents taking us on a drive up into the mountain every year to enjoy the fall foliage. Pennsylvania has provided a perfect opportunity to appreciate the changing of the seasons.

Isn't this an ideal time of year to marvel at God's glorious creativity?
