The Illustrations of Yelena Bryksenkova

The illustrations of Russian-born Yelena Bryksenkova caught my eye.

Are these women lonely, or just content to spend some soul-soothing quiet time?

I'd say the latter; there's nothing like unwinding after a full day

with a cup of tea, a book, or a beloved hobby.

Not to mention de-stressing with some fun dance moves!

I appreciate Yelena's special touches:

a potted cactus, the warmth of a radiator, a purring cat,

a fishtail braid, figs on a platter, a terrarium,

and the comforting presence of books.

Be sure to notice her lovely prints and patterns in the
wallpaper, sweaters and carpets.

Remembering 9/11: World Trade Center Reborn

Oh, that dreadful, tragic day of 9/11/01.
We shall never forget.
We stand united. We stand strong.
We recover. We rebuild.
We hold onto hope.

As I remember that day of sadness and despair,
I find comfort and hope in this Scripture verse:

"God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging."
Psalm 46:1-3

Here's an infographic on the rebuilding of the World Trade Center. 
Although it was made before the work was completed,
and therefore speaks in the future tense,
it is filled with interesting facts.

Some day I plan to visit the new World Trade Center
and the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City.
I'm sure it'll be a very solemn and moving experience.

I found a wonderful kitchen store called Mise en Place!
Located at 341 N. Queen Street in Lancaster, PA,
this family-owned shop is charming inside and out!

Cookware, bakeware, knives - just about everything 
you'd ever dream to have in your kitchen!
They carry quality brand names such as
All-Clad, Bambu, Wüsthof, 
Tovolo, Bodum and Zyliss.

I'm sure you're wondering, as I first did, 
about the meaning behind the French name.
Their front window, shown below, sorts that all out.
In the culinary world, it's about getting all your ingredients 
and tools lined up and ready before you begin.
A fine goal for any cook.
And here's the shop to help you do just that!

These eye-catching tassel banners served as fun, trendy window-dressing!

What a tempting assortment of kitchen gadgets!

A sweet selection of tea pots!

Lots of cookie cutter options.

Stylish industrial lighting adds to the great decor.

Louise Saxton’s Re-purposed Needlework Textile Art

Here's an extraordinary art form.
Louise Saxton re-purposes stitchery work from the past,
constructing new artistic masterpieces.

Imagine her time-consuming and concentration-requiring process:
designing, finding, acquiring, cutting, sorting, pinning and attaching
vast quantities of parts -into a gorgeous, new work of art! 

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Louise says she constructs her art in
"silent collaboration with the anonymous original makers."
How wonderful to honor times past and the age-old art of needlework.

The work above is entitled "Let the Jungle In."
I selected some of Louise's pieces to show you,
and, as I like to do, have included close-up photos
so that we can appreciate the immense amount of work involved,
the thousands of pieces used, and the amazing skill of the artist.
