Hardware Gizmos at the Morningstar Marketplace in Thomasville, PA

My husband and I were driving on Rt. 30,
through Thomasville, PA, which is just west of York.
The Morningstar Marketplace caught our eye
and we had no choice but to veer over and check it out.

Along with farm market vendors with a super selection of fruits and vegetables,
other foods were available like baked goods, meats, and cheeses.
Vendors also sold typical flea market antiques and such, plus
crafts, collectibles, garden plants and tons more.

Our favorite by far was a large tent with an enormous selection
of what I'd have to describe as hardware store items.
It was fun to just dig through things and neb into bins and boxes.
Lots of curiosities to pique our interests, that's for sure.

A song from Disney's "Little Mermaid" came to mind...
gadgets and gizmos aplenty, whozits and whatzits galore, thing-a-mabobs...
you get the idea.

There was such a wide variety of totally random items!
Before ya knew it, I was snapping photos.
(My hubby has come to expect this and knew it was coming.
God bless him for being patient with me when I get started.)

So here is just a small representation of some of the stuff we saw~

First, we'll get to the nuts and bolts of the place...😉

A flyswatter in any pastel shade that could suit your fancy.

For the kiddies-

Now, what little boy wouldn't love these?

Or, better yet... is that really what I think it is? Yup.

Here's the Morningstar Marketplace website.

Visiting Philly's Museum of the American Revolution

A recent addition to the many historical and cultural museums
in Philadelphia is the Museum of the American Revolution.
Intriguing and educational, it was a worthwhile experience for our family!

We began our tour by watching the 15 minute orientation film called Revolution.

which includes a life-size replica of a privateer ship.

Interesting artifacts~
A very accurate map of the Continental Army's encampment
at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania is carved on this powder horn.

See an interesting film about General George Washington
and view his original field headquarters tent.

What a wonderful way to learn about the rich history of our country!

Some Fun Facts About Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is on the second of February.
Why February 2? It falls midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox.
The very first Groundhog Day was on February 2,1887.
Germans who settled in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania first began looking to the
groundhog to predict the weather and determine the length of winter.
Groundhogs are also known as woodchucks - as in, How much wood could one chuck?

After hibernating all winter, a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil emerges from his burrow.
If he sees his shadow, 6 more weeks of cold weather are in store for us.
However, if he doesn't see his shadow, spring weather will arrive early.

The event is emceed by an Inner Circle of top hat-donned officials.
As far as accuracy is concerned, Phil has only nailed his prediction 40% of the time.

Punxsutawney, with a population of just under 6,000,
attracts tens of thousands of folks each year for the brouhaha.
Punxsutawney is the Delaware Indian word for "town of the sandflies." (Oh, dear.)

We Love the Pennsylvania Farm Show!

Every January, we trek to Harrisburg, PA to take in the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Many attractions are longtime favorites that we enjoy seeing every year,
but we always manage to discover new things as well!

The butter sculpture, above, is a really popular Farm Show tradition.
Jim Victor & Marie Pelton, of Conshohocken, crafted it from
1,000 pounds of butter that was donated by Land O' Lakes, Inc.

This little calf was extra cute!

Fried mushrooms are a savory treat!

Always special to have Grandmom along!

Seltzer's Lebanon Bologna - a Pennsylvania Dutch favorite since 1902!

Now, that's one unusual potato!

A Stroll Through Philly's Christmas Village

A very special holiday tradition in Philadelphia is its Christmas Village,
held in Center City's LOVE Park from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve.
The Village is modeled after the authentic Christmas markets in Germany,
the most well-know of which is the Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg.

Beautiful arts and crafts, including a large variety of Christmas décor and ornaments,
are sold by vendors in rows of wooden booths bedecked with festive pine garlands,
red bows, and the spectacular yellow Herrnhut stars - also known as Moravian stars.

What a festive way to spend a December afternoon with my daughter!
As is said in Germany, "Fröhliche Weihnachten!"

What a fantastic variety of Matryoshka dolls!

Lots of good eats! Grilled bratwurst was the lunch of choice.
Roasted nuts, baked cheese raclettes, pretzels, and strudels were also popular.

Exquisite wooden Schwibbogen, ornaments and nutcrackers by Käthe Wohlfahrt.

How about this trend of brightly colored live Christmas trees?
