Punch Needle Embroidery by Harp & Thistle

I'm super excited to show off the talent of Harp & Thistle!

This type of stitchery is called punch needle embroidery,

taken from an ancient technique of making hooked rugs.

Erin & Cory are the husband and wife team of "Harp & Thistle."

The clever name pairs symbols of their ancestries: hers, Ireland; his, Scotland.

She designs and creates each item. He's behind the scenes as photographer & shipper.

I am absolutely smitten with this fresh & fabulous embroidery hoop art!

10 Thanksgiving Myths Dispelled

Thanksgiving.

A solemn holiday focusing on the gathering of family,

a traditional meal of turkey with all the traditional fixings,

and the appreciation of every gift with which our Lord has blessed us.

Did I mention tradition?

Well, thanks to todayifoundout, who supplied us with this infographic,

we find that many of the things we thought to be

traditionally Thanksgiving are not so traditional after all.

But that's OK by me.

Please pass the sweet potatoes.

The Art of … Turkeys

November is here and it's time to talk turkey.

The bird we've come to recognize as a "Thanksgiving" turkey

is classified as a heritage turkey, and could be any one of 8 breeds.

Now, the birds we buy at the supermarket for our big feasts are most likely

a breed called the broad breasted white turkey,

known to accommodate people's preferences for lots of white meat.
My family, however, always lunges for the juicy, dark thighs.

I found several handsome depictions of the heritage turkey.

Lincoln's 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation

The following are excerpts from Abraham Lincoln's

1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation:

"The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings

of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come,

others have been added which are of so extraordinary a nature that they

can not fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible

to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

...It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently,

and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice

by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens..."
